Why a new version of EN 388?

IN 2016, THE 388 PROTECTION STANDARD WAS MODIFIED BECAUSE CERTAIN MATERIALS WERE DISTORTING TEST RESULTS*!

Since 2008, ROSTAING had already chosen the international standard ISO 13997 more stringent cut resistance tests, for maximum safety. 47 models of technical gloves were already tested and used according to this new standard, even before it was promulgated!

*The EN 388: 2003 CUT test is stopped at 60 cycles.
If the circular blade is blunted in the presence of abrasive materials such as fibreglass, steel, etc...

... then the
COUPURE test ISO13997 becomes the benchmark for cut resistance.

Depending on the manufacturer's choice, you may find several markings

MARKING : 4 5 4 3

If the EN ISO 13997 cut-off test is not required, put an X in the 5th position.

MARKING: 4 5 4 3 F or 4 X 4 3 F

The EN ISO 13997 cut test (e.g. F) is compulsory, or the manufacturer decides to carry it out on his own initiative. The cut level according to EN388 becomes informative and can be replaced by an X at the manufacturer's discretion.

MARKING: 4 5 4 3 X P OR 4 X 4 3 F P

Optional test: if the glove meets the requirements of the impact test, the letter P can be added at the end of the marking.

FOR EXAMPLE, BLACKRESCUE

Our glove achieves an exceptional level for the EN 388 standard:

QUALIFYING EACH WORKSTATION WITH ACS

Compliance with the standard is not enough.

ROSTAING's approach goes beyond this, by finding the best protection solution for each workstation.
